Rolex Daytona 16520 on strap

Rolex Daytona 16520 on strap

On special ordered black seam Hirsch Monte Carlo. Alligator suits this watch - in my opinion. It takes away a lot of the "bling".

It was time to get a Daytona with the Zenith El Primero based movement. I like this older Daytona, with its brushed lugs and symmetric subdial placement, more than the modern reference.

When you google "really scary pictures of ghosts" you get this photo.
*dies*

This was going to be my choice for my 365 the other day but figured I'd save this shot for something like this.

So I've been tagged a few more times, and I think I've got some more things to say. I still am not going to tag anyone else, but I'm giving this another shot.

This is what I'm talking about when I say I get a little carried away.

1. I've been trying to be more open to things lately. I don't want to say I was a judgmental person before, but I have certainly stopped caring about what people do in their spare time away from me.
2. I trust people very easily. Every single one of you who comments every one of my pictures and gives me feedback and such, I trust you. However, while I trust people very easily, I lose trust very easily as well. And once you lose it, you aren't getting it back.
3. I have two older brothers whom I love to death. We all used to fight a lot when we were younger, but maturity has kicked in and we all get along really well. I live with Ricky, who is 26. Ron is turning 30 this month and is married to Jen, who is one of my absolute favorite people. They live about 40 minutes away but always make time to visit us every couple of weeks, and they're always here for holidays and birthdays.
4. I grew up in (and still live in) an area where it's normal for an hour-long newscast to be at least half murder stories that have happened within a 30 mile radius from me. I live in a nice area, but some of the surrounding areas aren't so nice. Because of this, I have become desensitized to a lot of things that really should bother me, including death. I've learned that crap happens and you gotta suck it up and get over it, and sooner is always better than later.
5. I believe in ghosts 100%. I watch all the ghost shows on TV, I love horror movies, etc. If you ever have questions about ghosts, I am the one to come to. I've done research, I actually do believe that I've even had a handful of experiences. Because of my understanding of the scientific side of the paranormal, it's difficult for me to get into scary movies even though I love them. I find myself explaining phenomena that are meant to be mysterious and impossible to understand. There's obviously no suspense if I know what's going on.
6. If I want to be friends with you, I'm going to go for it. I am not a big fan of the awkward in-between phase after acquaintances and before full-blown friends. After about 2 days of talking consistently, I will treat you like I treat my closest of friends that I've known my whole life.

7. Out of respect, I've removed #7

8. I've learned that people talk. Few people on flickr are unique, and I've found that most of the people here who make me feel special as a person, not just another flickr contact, do not really find me to be special. And that's okay. I was pretty obsessed with flickr for a while, but over the past few days I've been reminded that my friends here at home don't NEED to care about me, but they do. And that deserves some recognition.
9. My full name, confirmation name included, is Steven James Patrick Sites. BUT YOU CAN CALL ME CAPS LOCK. (brownie points to anyone who gets that reference)
10. I'm actually really bad with people. I hate crowds, I hate going out. I find a few people I like being around and I kind of cling to them. There are a few people in my life who get me enough that they don't see me as clingy, but they understand how much I care about them. I have so many friends, but only a few that I see consistently.
i decided to add this one on:
11. I've caught people in my house muting their TV or stopping in the hallway when I'm singing. I've been singing my whole life, and while I don't really think I'm special at many things, I will say that singing is one thing that I'm good at.

I realize this was a bit less upbeat than my last one but I'm not in the best of moods tonight. I'll be fine, it's nothing major. But to sum up my emotions right now would be: surprised, uncomfortable, confused, annoyed, and frustrated. I'll be fine in the morning, but the situations that are bothering me will continue, at least for the next couple of weeks. I apologize in advance if you miss smiling Steven photos, but my 365 will likely be more conceptual for the next 15 or so shots. I'm thinking a lot.

Tracking Columbia

Tracking Columbia

I uploaded this a few weeks ago but the video transfer quality was bad so I removed it. This one's a bit better.

This is the launch of Columbia STS-50 on June 25, 1992. I was working as an engineering and documentary photographer/videographer at the Kennedy Space Center. One of my jobs was to operate tracking mounts with video and film cameras aboard.

This particular mount is called an Intermediate Focal Length Optical Tracker (IFLOT). Its design is based on a World War 2 anti-aircraft gun platform. This was the smallest of our tracking mounts and could be towed around with a pickup truck.

The camera on the left "wing" is a NASA broadcast video camera used to provide live TV coverage of the first portion of the launch. There is a 35mm high speed PhotoSonic camera mounted on the top mount and a 70mm PhotoSonic on the right "wing".

The operator controls the azimuth and elevation of the mount with an "H" shaped steering yoke. He looks through a range finding type telescope.

This mount is located at what we called the "Beach Site". Immediately to the right is the ocean. This is also only about 3 miles from the launch pad. The only guys closer are the rescue crews.

In this video I start by showing me getting into the mount at about T-minus 3 minutes to give an idea of the size of the mount. Then the video transitions to T-minus 12 seconds.

The guy wandering around behind the mount during launch is making sure the NASA TV camera cable doesn't get snagged.

I can tell you that it was an awesome rush to work this site. The shock wave would make the mount rock and roll and it was hard to keep a steady track. Plus the fact that millions of people all over the world were watching your video was pretty cool too.

I once had the best job in the world. :-)

TOBACCO ADVERTISING IN LADIES HOME JOURNAL...

TOBACCO ADVERTISING IN LADIES HOME JOURNAL...

"Tthere was a time when America was a free nation, you could light up wherever you wanted, even in the linen department of Macys. Now that was what I called dim-witted, and most folks realized that lighting up around fabrics was not too bright, but now, look around, look at the NO SMOKING SIGNS, everywhere. Unbelieveable. Is it true that you can't even smoke in a cocktail lounge nowadays? Who's idea was that anyway? What the hell is going on in the USA anyway. Now, I heard a rumor about your new President and some of the other prominent PARTY MEMBERS discussing a slick way to keep you from hearing your favorite radio programs. Tell me that isn't true! Have you all changed the BILL OF RIGHTS about Congress making NO LAWS ABOUT FREEDOM OF THE PRESS...Let me tell you this, then I'll have to get back, when Congress makes a law telling you that you can't listen to the Jack Benny Show unless you also listen to the Grand Ol' Opry, or that you can't listen to Gangbusters unless you listen to the Amos and Andy Show, there is gonna be a heap of trouble in the USA. I just can't imagine anybody thinking they can mess around with your BILL OF RIGHTS. Don't let em do it, okay? You owe it to all our guys and gals who fought the war for freedom--they weren't fighting for some radio boss to tell em what to listen to. And what's this crap about a truth squad? Trying to hang the last president after he's out of office. That's pure crap and B.S. Isn't there anybody down there who remembers Joe Stalin? For now, enjoy a cup of Lipton Tea and light up a Chesterfield. Happy smoking. Tell em Arthur Godfrey said it was okay..."
